 Hurricane Katrina Relief Update

Collection of Donation items and

volunteer help are now being accepted

Released by:

Dr. Dewey E. Painter, Sr., Ph.D

 President, Mission Harvest America

As of today we have sent 64 truck-loads of much-needed materials from our warehouse here in Jacksonville to the hurricane victims in the Gulf.  Somehow the rumor has gotten around that Mission Harvest is no longer looking for volunteers.  We apologize if there is any misunderstanding.  We had to turn volunteers away on one day because some trailers were later than expected in arriving at our dock and couldn’t be unloaded.  We ARE currently requesting volunteers to help in sorting and processing donated materials, and in loading and unloading trucks.  Please note that there have been some significant changes in supplies being requested, some additional drop-off points for donated items and some drop-off locations have been deleted.  Our thanks to all the hard-working media people who have been helping us get the word out.  We appreciate you!

Items Most Needed are:

Bottled water – up to 1 liter only please

Non-perishable food, granola bars, trail mix, small boxes of cereal

Canned Food [pop top type that can be eaten from the can]

Hand Sanitizer, Baby Wipes, Tooth brushes

Sample size toiletries – shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, mouthwash, etc.

Insect Repellent,

Funds for fuel  and driver expense.  Our drivers are all volunteers who

just want to help in the best way they can…by getting these materials

to the disaster areas as quickly as possible.  Your donation to help pay the

cost of fuel and expenses will be a blessing.

Volunteers are needed to help sort and pack clothing, to help pack boxes

and to load and unload trucks and trailers.

You can sponsor a complete water purification system for just $35.

This system needs no power, and from any water source will produce

5 gallons of pure, drinkable water every 90 minutes.  For those areas where water

and power are out, these systems will save lives.
